South Arkansas Regional Hospital (SARH) is proud to be the first hospital in Southern Arkansas to offer the da Vinci 5 Robotic Surgical System—redefining what’s possible for surgical care in our region. This groundbreaking technology represents a major leap forward in how we treat patients, combining precision, innovation, and comfort into one state-of-the-art platform.
Precision Meets Compassion
Designed to enable minimally invasive procedures with incredible accuracy, the da Vinci 5 system allows our surgeons to perform complex surgeries through small incisions, resulting in less pain, faster recovery times, and better outcomes for patients. The system’s advanced 3D-HD visualization and high-performance instruments give surgeons enhanced dexterity and control, making delicate procedures safer and more efficient.
For patients, this means:
- Smaller incisions
- Reduced post-operative discomfort
- Shorter hospital stays
- Quicker return to daily life
A Milestone for South Arkansas
In August 2024, Dr. Thomas Kennedy, SARH’s highly skilled general surgeon and Arkansas native, performed the hospital’s first robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci 5 system. The patient, Bubba Robertson, underwent a successful gallbladder removal and was able to return home just a few hours later.
“I do believe the use of the da Vinci allowed me to have an expeditious recovery,” Bubba shared. “I’m glad I entrusted SARH with my care and that I didn’t have to travel out of town for high-quality surgical treatment.”
Dr. Kennedy joined SARH in 2022 and has been instrumental in advancing surgical care in the region. His leadership and commitment to innovation continue to elevate the standard of care for South Arkansas residents.
A Strategic Investment in Community Health
The addition of the da Vinci 5 is part of SARH’s broader strategy to expand access to advanced, high-quality medical services close to home. This investment not only benefits patients but also enhances SARH’s ability to attract and retain top surgical talent while positioning the hospital as a leader in modern healthcare.
As SARH continues to grow and evolve as a nonprofit community hospital, the introduction of technologies like the da Vinci 5 reflects our deep commitment to innovation, excellence, and putting patients first.
