El Dorado, AR ( December 6th, 2023)– South Arkansas Regional Hospital in El Dorado now offers general inpatient hospice services (GIP) in partnership with Arkansas Hospice, the state’s largest non-profit provider of hospice care. The new service, which went into effect Dec. 1, demonstrates both organizations’ commitment to meeting the comprehensive healthcare needs of the community and ensuring compassionate care for patients and their families.
While most hospice patients receive care in their homes, nursing homes, or independent or assisted living facilities, there are times when general inpatient care is needed to stabilize symptoms in a hospital setting.
With this GIP partnership, Arkansas Hospice will augment the already excellent direct patient care provided by South Arkansas Regional Hospital with an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains to support patients and families during this challenging time. In addition, GIP patients will have access to dedicated family rooms designed to create a welcoming environment and ensure the comfort and privacy of patients and their loved ones.
In addition, the inpatient hospice program will offer 24/7 visitation allowing family members to be present when they are needed most, so they can help and bring comfort and peace to their loved ones.
For the convenience of patients and their families, two entrance points have been designated for the inpatient hospice unit. The front entrance is open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The ER entrance is accessible anytime from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. During locked hours (8 PM to 6 AM.), families may ask for entrance at the ER registration desk and provide the room number. Further assistance is available by calling 870.863.2000.
“We are excited to announce our partnership with Arkansas Hospice to offer inpatient hospice services in our community,” said Danna Taylor, President of South Arkansas Regional Hospital. “This new addition to our healthcare services demonstrates our dedication to delivering comprehensive and empathetic care to our patients and their families during the most sensitive stages of life.”
In June of this year, Arkansas Hospice began providing care for home-based patients in south-central Arkansas after reaching an agreement with SHARE Foundation for LifeTouch Hospice in El Dorado to become part of the Arkansas Hospice Family of Care. As a result, the nonprofit organization’s service area now covers 48 counties throughout the state.
“Partnering with South Arkansas Regional gives us the opportunity to continue growing our mission of providing expert care for Arkansas patients and their families,” Arkansas Hospice President & CEO Judy Wooten said.
